Free Wellbeing Sessions for Unpaid Carers
Information, support and activities for unpaid carers living in Bexley
To mark the vital and often unsung role of Bexley’s unpaid carers, the Bexley Carers Partnership are organising two free events –
- Wednesday 11th June from 1-5pm, The Nest Community Centre, Cygnet Square, Thamesmead (above the library). SE2 9FA.
- Wednesday 9th July, 10am-2pm, Bexley Holiday Inn, Black Prince Interchange, DA5 1ND.
If you are looking after someone, then why not come along and talk to other carers? There will be a gift bag for all carers on arrival, a free buffet lunch and refreshments. There’s support and advice on hand from local organisations who work with carers and free activities such as massage, reiki and gentle exercises. We want to give you some time to look after yourself, recharge your batteries a little and have a sympathetic ear.
There is free parking close by to the Nest and onsite at the Holiday Inn, or public transport routes close by. However, if you need help with transport, or help looking after your loved one, please let us know and we will try to help you organise something. Call 07927 393 799
Places must be booked in advance so please visit our events page here to book
Do you know your rights?
Every day, 12,000 people become unpaid carers for a partner, family member or a friend – many of whom don’t see themselves as carers, often unaware of their legal rights and what they’re entitled to in terms of support and benefits. This year’s theme is ‘recognising your rights’. Click here to view information on your rights from the Bexley Partnership website.
Why Carers Rights Day Matters?
In the UK, millions of people take on caring roles, often without proper recognition or support. Carers Rights Day emphasizes the rights of these unpaid carers, ensuring they understand their entitlements and have access to resources that can help balance caring responsibilities with their own wellbeing.
As a carer, knowing your rights empowers you with information about what you’re entitled to. This helps you feel confident asking for what you need, as well as challenging things when your rights are not being met – whether that be in the workplace or education, in accessing health or social care, or when interacting with other professionals or at home.
As a working unpaid carer, your right to unpaid carers leave
Your right to request flexible working
Your right to ask your GP practice to identify you as a carer
The right, and choice, to request a free flu jab
Protection against discrimination and harassment
Requesting a carers assessment
Being consulted when the person you care for is discharged from hospital
